The Song List

Here is a list of the songs for the choir – it is settled now, but I still welcome comments and suggestions. We will learn three songs per week for the first six weeks, then select nine songs for the performance in week eight. For each song there is a YouTube video – this is not necessarily the best version of the song, but it is the closest I could find to the version that we will sing.

You can download the song list as well as music and lyrics for the songs from the Downloads section.

You can also listen to all the songs via a Spotify playlist – details are here.

Week 1:  Space Travel

Space Oddity (David Bowie)

Mr Spaceman (Jim McGuinn)

Rocket Man (Elton John)  This is a video made by Iranian filmmaker Majid Adin. It is just beautiful.

Week 2:  The Moon

Blue Moon (Rogers & Hart)  Ella does this a little slower than we will, but just enjoy the elegance.

Walking On The Moon (Sting)

Moondance (Van Morrison)

Week 3:  Reaching For The Sky

Up On A Roof (Gerry Goffin & Carole King)  James Taylor’s version is simple, fairly straightforward and has a good feeling.

So It Goes (Tom Waits)

Helpless (Neil Young)  We’ll arrange the song slightly differently, but more like this than K.D. Lang’s version.

Week 4:  Beings In The Sky

Spirit In The Sky (Norman Greenbaum)

Starman (David Bowie)

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (John Lennon & Paul McCartney)  The audio is not good in this clip – originals not possible due to copyright issues.

Week 5:  Images of Good and  Evil

Bad Moon Rising (John Fogerty)

Ghost Riders In The Sky (Stan Jones)

A Sky Full Of Stars (Coldplay) The video is recorded in Newtown(!)

Week 6:  Birds

Three Little Birds (Bob Marley)

Sally’s Pigeons (Cyndi Lauper)

A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square (Eric Maschwitz & Manning Sherwin)  You can’t go past Vera Lynn, can you?
